The Wellington County Learning Centre promotes a learner-centred approach to literacy upgrading. This means learners direct their own learning and set their own goals - both long term and short term.
Literacy Upgrading for adult residents of rural Wellington County. Includes help with literacy, numeracy, resume development, basic computers and workforce literacy. Funding by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, Skill Investment Branch.
Just For YOUth Programs
Working one-to-one with youth (ages 8 to 18) still in school and living in Wellington County. Funded by United Way.
Math For YOUth Summer Program
This program is geared to youth who struggled with math while in school this past year. The program is designed to review and maintain skills learned in math in order to be ready for school in September. The program runs this summer in July.
GET AHEAD (Fergus), is an essential skills program for youth age 16 to 22yrs. This is an excellent program for those who are having difficulty establishing an employment or academic goal path. To begin you will attend a workshop once a week on various essential skills topics. At this time you will receive a Blackberry Playbook to borrow for the rest of the week. You will have daily activities to do on the playbook that relate to the workshop. You will return the playbook at the end of the seven weeks.
Academic Upgrading ( AU ) program, Conestoga College - Arthur Campus
The AU program at the Learning Centre is an adult upgrading program for adult students seeking admission to a post secondary college program or apprenticeship training who do not have an OSSD and those who do have an OSSD but are missing specific courses required for post secondary admission. The right AU and ACE courses make students eligible to enter post secondary or apprenticeship training without a Grade 12. This module based program has continuous intake and a teacher available at the following times: Tuesday and Thursday 9am to 7pm; Wednesday 10:30pm to 2:30pm. Come as little or as much as you need, but remember, "the more you come the faster you will be done!"
General Education Development (GED)
Recognized by colleges, apprenticeship and employers an an equivalent to an OSSD. GED preparation available at the Learning Centre. This program has continuous intake, ie. you can start at any time. GED prep Assessments are available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please call or email to book an assessment. There is a teacher available to help you prepare for the GED test at the following time: Tuesday and Thursday 9:00am to 7:00pm; Wednesday 10:30pm to 2:30pm. Come as little or as much as you need, but remember, "the more you come the faster you will be done!"
